~Greetings~
Today I am dusting off my sewing machine and I'm gonna give it a whirl. I've missed my dear primitive friends.
Some of you may know we had some life changing things going on. Buckley and I bought a pizza business! It is going really well! Now that things have slowed down. I'm gonna see if I can still sew. My love for primitives was put on the back burner for awhile. I was trying to find myself. Only to discover I went full circle and arrived back in the same place I was almost a year ago.

Hello everyone! I have been taking some time off. I needed soem time to find myself. I think I am on my way back to being who I was before I became a full time mom! Sometimes you love your children so much you stop living to give them a perfect life. But your forget that you still need to live.

I Need To Finish Something!

I have been busy Spring cleaning. I need to finish up some of my things I've started.
It's been such a long cold winter
When you get a few warmer days. You get this little bug in you to start cleaning
Its amazing how much dirt builds up during the winter
I have been trying to pick out a color for my downstairs bedroom. It has been a dark creamy tan for about 5 years. Time for a change, If I can just pick out a color!
Somebody please motivate me to get back to sewing!

My Mother

Yesterday was the day my mother passed away. It has been nine years. But sometimes it seems like I just spoke to her yesterday. She taught me so much wisdom on life. Yet in her passing she taught me so much more.
That life is so short for all of us,
Never to take anyone for granted,
Always tell your love ones how much you care.
Last but not least.. Just to live each day to it's fullest!

She was a tiny little thing about 4' 9". She had a sharp tongue and wasn't afaraid to say what she thought. Some people didn't like this at all. But if you were her friend or loved one. She would always put you first. Standing up for what she felt was right. I wish I had a little more of her spirit!

So maybe today you could pick up your phone and call a loved one. Just to say hello and see how they are doing! You'll feel better afterwards and so will they!

A Time for Peace

I hope that in this troubled economy. That we all take a minute and think about the true meaning of Christmas. Maybe this is our chance to teach our children that it isn't all about
"who gets the most".
With so much violence in the world. Perhaps while you are out this weekend. Try to do something nice for someone. Hold a door, smile,throw some change in donation box,give up a parking spot. You could clean out your pantry and donate those unused canned goods or go to the local animal shelter and offer to walk a dog. Afterwards you will feel like you've changed the world. Every tiny bit of kindness counts!

The Covered Bridge Festival

This wonderful festival is up and running again. The trees are turning this week and by the weekend they should be in full color.
I must say Bridgeton is still my favorite for shopping!
Im posting a picture of Maggie overlooking the old mill and bridge there. I had my picture taken there years ago as a little girl.
This bridge had to be rebuilt a few years back. A man burnt it to the ground when he was mad at someone. The new bridge looks just as old and I believe the Amish rebuilt it.
If you go on into Mansfield the crowds and stands are bigger. But in my opinion, Bridgeton has the best shopping, food and scenery!

A Better Day

The past few days have been a whirlwind. With the passing of my dear friend Eileen. I had just spoke to her on Tuesday. I was telling her about my daughter Maggie (4) getting hurt. I told her I sure missed her living next door. Eileen had been my next door neighbor for about 8 years. Whenever my son would get hurt I would panic at the sight of blood. I would grab the phone and and speed dial her. She would actually come running. First aid box in hand and her heart on her sleeve. Friends like this come once in a lifetime. I was lucky to have had her for the time I did.

Some of you may be wondering what happened to her. She had a terrible headache and went to the emergency room. It must have been a really bad one. She never went to the doctor. She was always saying she couldn't afford it. The hospital wanted to do a cat scan but she refused. "She couldn't afford it" So she went home and went to bed. Later on she went to a spaghetti dinner and passed out. That is when we got the news. A brain aneurysm They life lined her to Indianapolis and did surgery. After surgery they said she would never wake up again. They took her off life support at 3:00 pm on Sunday. She fought until 11:20 on Monday and passed away.
It kinda makes me feel like if she had insurance they would have gave her a little more time. It might have not made a difference but that is how I feel

Halloween for me is my favorite holiday. I love the thought of ghouls, goblins, and witches roaming around. The bad thing is it takes me a month to display all my goodies. I start with my fireplace mantle and it goes from there. Tonight my husband shook his head and sat down with a sigh. I have started! My mantle will change at least 10 times after I start. I will pick up lots of goodies at the festivals in the next 4 weeks. So some lose their top priority. I will spend the rest of Septemeber decorating evrery nook and cranny. Then on October 1st I venture outside. The scarecrow loses his cute little primitive bunny head. For a ghoulish monster face. Then the front porch takes on a festive display. Its coming up on that time of year when all the wonderful fall festivals start.

My Favorite
"The Covered Bridge Festival" Mansfield, Rockville,Bridgton. Indiana

It starts the second Friday in Oct and runs for 10 days.

Such a large festival. Miles and miles of booths filled with primitives, crafts, antiques and great food. yard sales line State Rd. 41. Thousands of people from all over the United States come and enjoy this great festival. The leaves are usually at their peek colors by mid week. Plenty of covered bridges to stop at and enjoy the beautiful colors and sounds.
My folk art will be displayed in the big barn on Mansfield hill top. Hope you stop by and say hello. I think Bridgton is my favorite place to shop and down the back road to Rockville This wonderful lady sets up in a field with antiques ,primitives and vintage finds. I even get there late in the day and still leave with a bunch of goodies, Last year I bought a whole box of vintage and antique lace for $20. It all is beautiful and its priceless to me! I usually start at Mansfield then work my way to Bridgeton, then Rockville has a wonderful antique store on the corner, You wil see everything! Hope to pop into some of you gals

For the Love of Halloween

From as long as I can remember my father loved Halloween. He dressed up in the most outlandish outfits. It always brought a smile to my face and sometimes a scream from my mouth,
I guess I enjoy making Halloween dolls the most. This I give honor to my father. He enjoyed the holiday so much. When he passed away 14 years ago two days before Halloween (at 61). People thought it was a Halloween prank riding out to the graveyard way out in the hills. It was raining all day, Like the angels were crying.
But after the service people kept coming up to me saying. They were waiting for him to walk up dressed in costume and scare us all. Oh I wish it would have been a prank! I loved him so very much and miss him everyday. So I dedicate this years offering to you my father "Norman Franklin Cumming"

Hello! My name is Britt of The Olde Prim House. I have 2 children Baylen 13 and Maggie 3. With the birth of Maggie at the ripe old age of 40. I became a stay at home mother again. Back to sweat pants, no makeup, and undyed roots. Well I figured I need to get a hobby. Or at least do something I enjoyed besides spending money!
So I bought a sewing machine (my 3rd one without returning it) and I started sewing. I cried a few times and have said a few harsh words. But Im off and running now.
I just founded my own group of artist on Ebay ~ The Ladies Of Folk Art ~ I feel blessed to be apart of such talented artist. We are one for all and all for one! I couldnt ask for a better group of friends.
I love primitives of any sort. I enjoy making grungy dolls with a little bit of whimsy!

My Birthday

It seems to have me 43 years in life to discover. You dont need a birthday cake, a dinner out, or a flashy present. What you need is the love of your family. Of all my birthdays. This one will be my most cherished and remembered.
My children came walking in singing "Happy Birthday Mommie" They didnt need daddy to tell them or a fancy package. They had a store bought pecan pie! How delightful! They made my heart sing! How blessed I am to be a mother.

Maggie

From the time my feet hit the floor in the morning. Its all about Maggie!
I was told after my son Baylen was born (9lbs 11oz) That I would not be be able to carry a child full term again. I "had" weighed 105 lbs. Carrying this heavy baby had put a strain on my uterus. I was 30 at the time.

Well at 40 I discovered I was pregnant! How did that happen????? Ok... I guess once in 6 months can qualify. I was so happy and sick.
I should have known a storm was brewing. I couldn't eat anything. I couldn't even drink a coke without running to the bathroom.
9 long months and I made it.
When I first seen her. I was shocked. She didn't have the white hair my son had. It was black! Where did she come from? Not me. I could hear my mother in law " All the Latona babies have blonde hair" My husband says I said "I swear she's yours"
I don't remember saying that. But I do remember thinking it! lol
Needless to say, Her hair all fell out, I had a bald girl. It came back in the color of mine as a child. A strawberry blonde. She also looks like my husband(Thank God) After a colic st ricked 4 months she turned out to be my my life saver! I don't know how I would survive without her
So it's ok that I cant get any housework or sewing done. I just need to take a deep breath and think.
Where would I be without you.. My darling Maggie. I really dont know. I know she is my gift. A gift that told me it's ok to love again. Life goes on after your parents are gone. That maybe she is as mean as a striped a$$ snake. Because my mother is in there. She always said she'd give me a sign. I realize now she is. Everyday she shows herself. Funny I just figured it out..
